If you choose to produce this script, I only ask that you credit me. I would also enjoy it if you produce it well, but that is entirely up to you.
INT: CASSANDRA’S BEDROOM- NIGHT.
Cass lies in her bed. A loud noise from downstairs wakes her up. Her eyes open slowly, and another loud noise echoes from outside her door. She shoots up like a dart.
CASS
Dad?
Silence.
She begins to panic.
CASS
DAD?!
Her father’s voice can be heard from down the upstairs hall.
DAD
I can hear you, baby.
CASS
THERE’S SOMEONE HERE, DAD! THERE’S SOMEONE IN THE HOUSE!
CLOAKED FIGURE
Cassandra.
Cass turns to face the source of the voice to see a dark, cloaked figure looming over the left side of her bed.
She screams and rolls out of her bed. She runs out the door into the upstairs hallway.
CASS
DAD!
DAD
(From downstairs)
I’m here, Cass.
CASS
WHAT’S GOING ON?!
Silence.
CLOAKED FIGURE
Cassandra.
Cass swivels around to find that the Cloaked Figure is just out of her bedroom door. They reach a hand towards her.
CASS
DAD! HELP ME!
She looks around her downstairs to find that all of the lights are off. Every room is empty.
CASS
DAD! WHERE ARE YOU?!
Silence.
CASS
DADDY?!
She can hear soft weeping coming from the other room.
DAD
I’m here, baby.
Cass speeds towards the sound of her father’s voice.
CASS
DAD! THERE’S SOMETHING UPSTAIRS! IT’S AFTER-
She trails off. Her father, along with her mother and a strange woman wearing all black sit at a table holding hands.
WOMAN IN BLACK
I feel her. She’s here.
DAD
I’m here, baby… I’m here.
Her mother, tears running down her cheeks, squeezes her father’s hand.
MOM
She was always closer to you. Always.
Her father nods, trying his best to fight back tears.
CASS
What is this? What’s going on?
WOMAN IN BLACK
I feel confusion. I feel fear.
DAD
Can… can she hear us?
WOMAN IN BLACK
It’s always hard to tell… call out to her once more.
CASS
Mom… Dad… I’m right here.
DAD
Cass, baby…talk to me. Please talk to me.
CASS
I’m right here… I’m right here!
CLOAKED FIGURE
Cassandra.
Cass slowly turns around. Tears are beginning to pool in her eyes.
The cloaked figure is standing in the doorway to the room.
DAD
We hear you every day, baby. We know you’re here… but you can’t stay here anymore. You have to let go. I wish you could stay so… so bad… but you have to find your way.
The cloaked figure removes his hood to reveal a handsome boy around Cassandra’s age. He smiles weakly at Cass, sadness lingering in his eyes despite it.
CLOAKED FIGURE
Cassandra, it’s time.
CASS
I can’t leave them.
CLOAKED FIGURE
Oh, Cassandra. You won’t. Not ever. You’ll be with them every single day. But you’re lost… and I’ve come to help you.
CASS
Will they be okay?
The cloaked figure walks forward until he’s at Cass’s side. He turns to look at her family.
CLOAKED FIGURE
Yes, in time. There will be tears… there will be heart-ache. But one day… they’re going to remember you and they’re going to smile. Your father will tell jokes again, and your mother will start walking by the river like she used to. They’ll plant their garden, they’ll read their stories. But they’ll remember. Always.
WOMAN IN BLACK
She sees the way forward.
MOM
But can she hear us?
WOMAN IN BLACK
I’m trying to feel out… trying to sense…
CASS
Before I go, can I…
CLOAKED FIGURE
Of course.
Cass walks to the woman in black and whispers in her ear. The woman in black perks up.
Cass walks back to the Cloaked Figure.
CASS
Am I going to go to Heaven?
CLOAKED FIGURE
It will be hard to beat the life that your family provided you..
He extends a hand.
CLOAKED FIGURE
But we’ll try.
The two walk out the door, hand in hand.
The woman in black turns to Cass’ parents. As she tells them Cassandra’s message, they smile through their tears. They hold each other.
Fade to white.
