





Fig. 1- The banner for the Department of Corrections website was formerly a generic picture of the State Capitol with the tagline “Creating Opportunities for Safer Communities.” My supervisor, Cord Overton, felt that the banner did not properly represent the Department and tasked me with redesigning the graphic. The building in the photo is the Iowa Correctional Institute for Women, and the logo featured is a high resolution version of the Department logo on low opacity.
Fig. 2- The Judicial Map of Iowa that the Department had been using for hiring brochures and various literature was antiquated and used font that, when the image was transformed either smaller or larger, lost legibility. I took a blank map of Iowa, outlined each of the 8 Judicial districts, manually labeled each of Iowa’s 99 counties, and labeled each of the 9 penitentiaries and 8 Community Based Corrections facilities.
